Energetic signatures

The concept of human beings and energy first came to me from the oddest of places: Cesar Milan! Yes the Dog Whisperer! Cesar´s view was that dogs read, understand and actually mirror the owner´s energy. A dog may get nervous because you are nervous and his guidance was we should look to emit calm and assertive energy. (I was looking for a quote but see here for an article that completely makes this point).

So, as a person, you emit energy that can be read, not just by animals, but by other human beings as well (my guess would be that plants can read you too …). I´ll give you an example before we get too far along into the abstract. I used to have the experience of walking into shops where the items were out of my price range and feeling as though I didn´t deserve to be there. I felt like a fraud. My experience used to be that the attendants would (whether actually or seemingly) take on an air of superiority and look down their noses at me while keeping a sharp eye on my every movement, (lest I slip something into my pocket). I would feel that they were secretly laughing at my audacity at having entered into the shop in the first place to waste their precious time. This kind of shop was not for people like me! And they knew that I knew it! So why not just turn around and walk away? I would figure that they were just rude … why did they need to regard me as though I were a most wanted criminal …?! Most times, the discomfort would make me leave, feeling deflated and dejected.

After reading a number of books and pondering my life, I reached a realization … Whenever I felt undeserving or out of place, the attendants would mirror my feelings back to me with their actions. The attendants had no way of objectively knowing whether or not I could afford anything in their shop just by looking at me. You’ve all seen the strange and banal ways that rich people dress and we know that nowadays, the rich come from all walks of life. To break it down a little, the way I was feeling was what was causing the actual reaction I was receiving. Again: because at some level I felt fraudulent, the staff received this information energetically from me and treated me as a fraud! Let that sink in.

This always makes me think of “Pretty Woman” where Julia Robert´s character was given poor (or refused) service at a particular high-end store. She lacked the confidence to be there given her background. She probably felt like a low life who had no business to be in such a shop: these places were not for her. She felt unworthy. The attendant lady who all but shooed her from the store was reacting to that energetic signaling. Once Julia’s character successfully shopped in one of these stores, it changed her mindset about herself. She now saw herself as a woman worthy of riches and abundance and commanded a level of service to match. Changing how she saw herself changed the energetic signature around her and affected how people reacted to her.

This is such an earth-shattering realization. We´ve heard it said that if you do not love yourself, you cannot be loved. This is really the key behind that logic. Other people sense what you feel, much like Ceasar Milan´s dogs. If you emit a signal that says, “I am unlovable, look I can´t even love myself,” your prince charming will not be arriving on a carriage. And even if he does, your energy will sort of “poison” him to make him either leave or turn into a toad.

Moving away from relationships though, to learn that our energy affects how others interact with us, is to mean that we can create our own reality. Working on how I feel about myself would have a real-life impact on how people treat me out there in the open. And to take it a step further, my energy could impact other people’s days – if the shop attendant did not have to face negative feelings from me because I no longer tied my worth to my bank statement, wouldn’t they also have a more positive day?

Taking this to a grander scale, if I knew that I had the ability to impact the mood of the bus driver by a simple smile, would I smile at him? If I knew that that simple act had the potential to avert the imminent accident waiting for that bus in the version of reality where the driver’s bad mood and absentmindedness causes him to miss a red light and drive into oncoming traffic, wouldn’t I activate my energy and amp up a radiant smile to improve his day? Isn’t reality composed of a tapestry of the different choices that different people make throughout the day? If a simple gesture could have such a powerful impact on my life and the life of others, wouldn’t I act?
